The smartphone market is facing an increasingly pessimistic outlook, with global shipments expected to decline by 6.8% to 1.16bn units in 2026 in the current baseline scenario. The contraction is driven by a “perfect storm” of surging component costs and geopolitical instability. Omdia predicted the worst-case scenario of a 14.8% year-on-year decline in smartphone shipments in 2026.
